How fast is it?
The class is set up on an index. The index for A/Gas is 7.60 Seconds
in the
quarter mile at over 185 MPH (FAST!)
How much gas does it use?
From the time that I do the burn out to the end of the track it
uses about 5-
6 gallons of Methanol or Alcohol
How much does the fuel cost?
About 7.00 per gallon
Why do we do a burn out?
To clean off the tires and leave some rubber on the starting line
for traction
How much does it cost to race?
The cost of every pass can be very expensive, we change the oil
every pass, we
change the spark plugs every pass, the cost of the tires and just
general where and
tear on all of the parts. Each pass costs about 300.00 for every
pass if nothing
breaks.
Is it hot in the car?
It depends on the time of the year, but most of our racing is done
in the summer
months. With all of the safety equipment that I need to wear, at
time it can get to
over 120-130 inside the car.
What does it feel like when the car leaves the starting line?
I have tried to give people that ask me that question some example
of what it is
like; the closest example of the feeling is sitting in an airplane
at take off. It is more
extreme than that but the same feeling or comparable to roller
coaster ride.
How many people are in the crew?
Usually about 7 people
How long have I been racing?
About 25 years, I started with high school racing on Wednesday.
And moved up
to Sportsman. From there we went into C/ Gas, B/gas and know A/Gas.
